2017 Fortuna Boys Golf Season
This Fortuna High golf season 2016-2017 was a season that I’ll never forget. The fortuna high golf team and I had our sights on one objective; and one objective only. Our goal was win a HDN title and that would end up leading to one. Del Norte though was a good team that has won 4-straight HDN titles but the Huskies were determined to finally win one before our seniors go off to college. We started off beating Del Norte at Willow Creek by 20 and they would answer back and grab a 6 shot lead. This close battle would soon end when we went to Benbow and dominated the field and grab a 40 shot lead for the HDN title. The final tournament and the final hole for me was the most emotion that I felt in a long time. In my mind I never thought we would win a title but with hard work and dedication anything is possible. When we were told that we won HDN a burst of excitement and emotion released and I was mind blown I couldn’t process what we just had accomplished as a team. We ended up beating Del Norte by 10 shots and that concluded to our first title since 1995. That in my opinion is great and historical achievement that we accomplished and I am blessed and proud to be a husky golfer and proud that my hard work over the summer has finally paid off.
We ended up getting to go to sectionals in Santa Rosa and competing for a sectional title. Unfortunately we didn’t do it but it was my first experience in a highly competitive round of golf. The trip and food was also paid for by our school and that was pretty cool that we could stay in a hotel and go out to eat for free. That season was the most memorable season that I’ve ever experienced and I hope I can someday do it again and relive the moment. When I got back home I said to myself “I gotta go back and represent my team again and play better. Now this next year I’ll try even harder to get back to sections.
